I have been Beaver trapping for about 10 years now, I've tried several beaver lures and I have to say with out a doubt that Timber is my favorite, most productive one, whether it be summer control or winter fur catching. If I'm using a castor based lure, Timber is it. I wont leave home with out it. Thanks Tim for such a great lure. A.L. Arkansas

Minnesota brand coon and mink bait is the only thing I ever had constant, steady success with for water trapping coon and mink. Has a good fresh smell. My dad and I also swear by just mice. Has a good clean smell and it keeps that way all season. To me that is what you want in a bait, a fresh smell without too much junk added in. If anyone is wondering about Minnesota trapline company all I can say is great service and great products. Buy anything with their name on it and you won't be disappointed. N.M. Ohio

Last year was my first year trapping Fisher in PA. After researching different baits and lures I decided to go with Gusto as the main attractant on my line. I also went with the MB-450-OS as my main trap. I fell in love with both. I caught two Fishers using Gusto and the MB-450-OS traps, but sadly they were outside of our five day season. The MB-450-OS traps worked great right out of the box, and made perfect pad catches on both Fishers, allowing for a harmless release of both animals. I also caught my first Red Fox last year using this combination! I'm sold, and will be stocking up on Caven's lures and baits, as well as some more MB traps. C.N. Pennsylvania

This is only my second year to trap, but I'll share a little bit of what I know. First I want to say Caven's bait's and Lure's are AWESOME!!!! I caught 6 coyotes last year, (which was my first year) and the first three I didn't have a sifter. I had to sift it with my hands. But I think MB bait's and lures is what did the trick. Caven's bait's and lures are the only bait's and lures I've ever used, but I'm PLENTY satisfied. So get outside, and enjoy God's creation:) D.J. Texas

Books and Videos

I just bought Eastern Raccoon Trapping by Matt Jones. I think it is a great video for coon boxes and body grips. but is a little disappointing on trapping with footholds. overall I would recommend this video. the tip on how to make a coon box is worth the price . Everything else is a bonus. C.P. Kansas

Rain Dogs"- Matt Jones For someone inquisitive as myself, this a great dvd to learn proper dirt holes and flat sets. Matt does not explain how to really locate the coyote sets but he does show how to properly bait and or lure your set and how to make a flat and dirt hole set quickly and painlessly. The video quality and delivery isn't professional tv quality but it is a knowledgeable man showing you what he knows and what has made him so successful through the years. If you are new to targeting coyotes using dirt hole and flat sets, this dvd is invaluable. B.S. New York

Musk, Mystery & misconceptions by Russ Carman; I found this book provided good instruction on lure and bait making. It also covered some history on the industry and ingredients used to make lures. The book flowed well and was easy to read. I've read it cover to cover a few times now, and I feel like I pick something new up each time I read it. The book also contained definitions and descriptions of many lure ingredients. A must read for anyone who want to make lures and baits. C.P. New Hampshire

Encyclopedia of Lure and Bait making by Kellen Kaatz; I was disappointed with this book. It didn't contain a great deal of information on making lures and baits. The book was pretty much a list of ingredients and the definition and general use of the ingredient. I think the name of this book should be changed to “A dictionary of lure and bait ingredients” C.P. New Hampshire

Kirk DeKalb - Trappin' Tales - I felt that Kirk did a nice job of explaining set location as well as the reason behind setting that location. The video was laid out very nicely and the video quality itself was head and shoulders above the rest. Equipment was covered and explained and Kirk did a good job overall. This video left me wanting more from Kirk. C.L. Virginia

Dale Billingsley - Raccoon Trapping 2005 - This video is laid out very similar to every other trapping video out there. The video starts with a brief introduction to Dale's equipment then the "on the line" footage begins. Dale does a good job explaining his system to the viewer. The video quality isn't what I would consider top shelf but the information in the video is just fine. C.L. Virginia

Charles Dobbins - The Dirthole & It's Variations (Video) - As with any of Charlie's videos you'll find it packed full of priceless information but you won't find flashy graphics or loud rock music. The information gained by watching a Dobbin's video is "money in the bank" in my opinion. Charlie opens up the single dirthole in this video and adds quite a few "tricks" for your arsenal. It doesn't show any catches but it does show alot of great sets! C.L. Virginia

Ron Hauser - Longlining, Raccoons, & Conibears - Ron Hauser has spent many a season in the field and it shows with this 'coon video. My 220 trapping improved immensely after watching this video. I am unable to use the boxes like Ron but still enjoyed seeing that portion of the video as well. C.L. Virginia

Matt Jones - Rain Dogs - With the unpredictable weather we get here in the east I feel like Rain Dogs should be in everyone's video library! Darin Freeborough's- "Animalistics: Rattlin' Chains" – DVD - I have watched this dvd a couple times since I bought it. I bought the DVD because it seemed like it would cover the type of terrain that I trap in. It also advertised some winter trapping. I did not see any winter trapping in the DVD. I did like the amount of sets that he covered, but did not like how it was all over the place(switched between topics too much) The three black coyotes he catches are a bonus since its not everday we get to see black coyotes. Overall I think it was worth the money if you trap in farm type areas (cornfields and big pastures) because there are some sets shown in the DVD that will definitely produce some coyotes in those types of areas. Some wood sets are shown but they are focused towards bobcats. I would rate it a 7/10. Z.G. New Hamphire

Matt Jones - Successful Beaver & Otter Trapping In my opinion, Matt needs to release the second edition to this video. There's a few tips in this video that are worth the price of the video in my opinion. The drowner tricks he shows during his equipment section are great as well! C.L. Virginia

Kyle Kaatz - Trapline Anecdotes: NM Coyote Trapping This video leaves alot to be desired. The video is filled with wind noise and lacks alot of key information. Mike "Red" O'Hearn - Coon Trapping....The Untold Story - Red's numbers speak for themselves...his system works. Traps

Only have few years trapping experience in the field. I do however have industrial experience, a mechanical degree and currently an instructor position. What I dont have, like alot of trappers, is alot of time. ANY product that I have seen, purchased, or used in the field that carries the Minnesota Brand name is far superior to others. Some of the most notable items are the MB footholds of any size. Component quality, craftsmanship, and resulting durability are to be envied. Even if I had the time I couldn't do better myself. Out of the box equipment for sure. Same story on MB hand tools, trap setters, swivels etc. Excellent steel with what appears to be high nickle content and a fantastic welder/fabricator create" investments" not traps and tools! P.S. Other than washing the oil off and waxing them, they are ready to start setting. I'm not too fond of the MB-650. It's too much trap for these critters here. Gonna sell them before the season starts and put that towards a dozen more 550's. Over all MTP is a great business because of it's owners and employees. They want US to be successful in the field. Whenever we get the time to get out in it! K.C. Louisana

The MB 1216 is the best kill type beaver trap on the market. I was able to go along a trapline with a beaver trapper a year or so ago. We used a dozen of the 1216's and had beaver in 5 out of 12 traps daily. He lent 6 of them to me to try out myself, I find that because of the larger jaw spread, I find that the beaver have an easier time wanting to pass through them compared to regular 330's. Don't get me wrong, the 330 is a great trap and #1 on my beaver line but there is no match to the 1216's. K.M Manitoba

Duke Traps have improved a great deal. I use the 1 3/4 offset and 4 coiled for that extra punch coming up out the mud. I've tried many different brands and they worked great as well. But for the price... This trap is tops. Remember this... WE WERE ALL NEW TO TRAPPING at one time. Someone helped us get started. Pass a little to the next generation. R.S. Louisiana

Pretty much anything Tim Caven puts his name behind is top notch. I've used the MB 550's, Crunch Proof swivels, Hiawatha predator bait, MB 750's.....All top notch. Not to mention they look out for active duty and veterans like myself. I'm proud to wear the free t-shirt they gave me at the NTA this year. Top notch company ran by top notch people, with the best customer service in the business. D.W. Kansas

Just received my shipment of MB550s and MB750s, Beaver Business book and some lures. Great products. Couldn't wait, so I went out in the yard and made some dirtholes with the traps. Excellent traps, should be perfect for coyote and bobcat this winter. The Beaver Business book has a ton of great info and will be most useful for ADC beaver work this fall. Thanks! R.D. Missouri

MB 1216- WOW! I think beaver were made to be caught in these traps! The striker bar really makes for a tight close and a quick, humane kill. I love the shape and size. really cuts down on the amount of fencing required to block a channel. Another great product from a great organization. J.S. Wisconsin

MB-1216-JC Body Grip - Awesome trap , nice large opening means less fencing/blocking. The springs on this trap are strong, and the frame is rigid with the 3/8" jaws and striker. I have never had one set off and empty, I have held beaver by the front foot and a couple rats by the tail. E.S. Michigan

I run 450 Foxers, 450FH OS, 650Cs and 750s, they are awesome traps. I even put 550 4 coil kits on some of my 450s to make a light duty 450 Minker. Keep up the good work guys. M.N. Michigan

Bridger traps are a great trap that holds up very well and at A good price too. That Timber Beaver lure of yours works like magic, made my first catch with it,loved it ever since. Those farmers never thought I clean all them crop floodin critters in one night.I get the funniest looks from the people at the gas station when they get a whiff of the strange odor of Gusto and a red fox urine mix lol.Whereing hip waders in the store doesn't help with the dirty looks either. I have been using MB products for 3 years. I believe having confidence in a trap and bait/lure your using is key. When I used some Hiawatha Valley Predator Bait and a 650 at a set I knew it would catch. Scored my first yote. The 450's have accounted for multiple fox and fisher's along with the 550's. I've had 550's run over by tractors bent the dog that was all. I love out of the box ready to go. B.K. Pennsylvania

I bought some MB 750's for the first time last year, for spring beaver. Talk about an all business piece of equipment! Once again MTP has broken free of the "mold" that most traps fall into, and come up with a tool that does the job. I'll be collecting some more of these! J.S. Wisconsin

the MB-1216 body grip along with RK support stands are just the ticket for the wider channels where a 330 would need blocking. and the current takes the catch away from the set area using the RK supports which are fastened so they dont get lost, Been trapping with dad since i could walk and now my son,Jace will know MTP as a house hold word.Dad is over my shoulder when i set the 1216's and always use a safty gripper K.S. I liked the mb-750 beaver trap, beacause of its uniqe trigger system and its big jaw spread allows for bigger room for error when bedding the trap and it holds beaver when you get toe catches. I also tried allagash fur call lure last season and I liked the strong skunk smell it had. I also purchased the mb-550 this year and I havent had a chance to trap with it this year, but it is a well built and humane trap, which is evident by looking at it and setting it. D.J.

Got the modified (baseplated) sleepy creek 1.75. They are a stout trap to begin with but after MTP added the baseplate they are awesome traps. Didn't see that deal in the catalogue this year, they do have the 1.5 modified deal but didn't see the 1.75. Hope the bring that one back. Add some machine chain and some crunch proof swivels and your good to go. I'd also like to see the regular super stake come with the. S.L. West Virginia
